November Council Meeting

We will meet Wednesday November 1st,  All Saint's Day (Holy Day of Obligation) as scheduled.

All Saint's Day-  Mass 6:30am,12:15pm & 7:00pm (All English).

As most of you know our Parish Hall is used every day of the week and it is very difficult to reschedule our Knights of Columbus meeting for another day.  Meeting schedules are set up six months or more in advance for use of the Parish Hall.

We have a very important item on the agenda. The proposed Knights of Columbus Hall will be presented. A committee has been working on this project for a few months.  Your input on this major decision is of the upmost importance for the future of Council 9368..  There are a few other items on the agenda that are time senstive and need to be discussed at the November meeting as well.   I would like to request that every effort possible be made to attend and participate on Wednesday, November 1st.

Council Participation in the St. William Fall Festival

Cooks

Hamburgers on the grill. Council members prepared and served sausage wraps and chopped barbecue beef as well.

Servers

The council booth served about 600 sandwiches providing $2,100 to the St. William building fund. Tom Bayer's hard work as this year's council chairman for the K of C festival booths made Council 9368's effort a great success!

Squires

The Council-sponsored Squires Circle helped slake the thist of the multitude, selling about $400 worth of soft drinks.

Transforming our Culture for Life

There will be a three day "Transforming Our Culture For Life" event running Nov. 3-5, as detailed in a pdf file found in the News section of the website at the State level, and involves Archbishop Daniel DiNardo.  The schedule features a 4th degree Honor Guard turnout, and includes pro-life speakers such as Fr. Frank Pavone, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, extraordinary guitarist Tony Melendez, and others.

When calling 800-731-4500, Knights and their families will also receive valuable discounts if they also attend the event's benefit dinner on Friday nite with Fr. Pacwa.

The Omni Westside Hotel has discounted block rooms available for reservation by conference-goers nearby (281-558-8338) and event planners hope to see many attendees from cities across Texas.

Attendance at this event would qualify as one of the five Pro Life items a Knight could do to earn the KofC's ProLife ACE Wings Award.

First Knight of Columbus-Bishop will be Canonized

Rafael Guízar Valencia Known for His Zeal

ROME, OCT. 10, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Bishop Rafael Guízar Valencia will become the seventh Knight of Columbus to be canonized, but the first bishop of the Catholic organization to be declared a saint.

Pope John Paul II declared six other knights saints in 2000, all of whom were martyred in Mexico during the persecutions of the 1920s and 1930s.

"We welcome the canonization of our brother knight, Bishop Guízar Valencia, and know that his life of courage and legacy of evangelization will be an inspiration to each of our 1.7 million members around the world," said Carl Anderson, supreme knight.

Anderson said that he will attend the Oct. 15 canonization ceremony in Rome, presided over by Benedict XVI.

Rafael Guízar Valencia (1878 -1938) was born in Cotija de la Paz, Michoacan, Mexico, and ordained a priest in 1901.

With the start of the Mexican revolution in 1910, persecution of the Catholic Church became severe, and Father Guízar Valencia became a special target because of his outspoken defense of the Church.

He went underground, disguised as a junk dealer, in order to be able to continue his work as a priest. In 1915, when the Mexican government issued an order that he be shot on sight, he escaped to the United States, and then went on to serve the church in Guatemala and Cuba.

While in Cuba, he was consecrated bishop of Veracruz, Mexico. The end of the revolution enabled him to return to Mexico in January 1920. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1923.

Seminary

As bishop, he founded a clandestine seminary to train future priests, noting that a "bishop can do without a miter, a crosier, and even a cathedral, but never without a seminary, because the future of his diocese depends on the seminary."

Bishop Guízar Valencia was forced to flee Mexico once again in 1927, during the persecution of the Church under Mexican President Plutarco Calles.

He returned in 1929, the year the Church reached an accord with the Mexican government.

After his return to Mexico, Bishop Guízar Valencia continued his ministry, and became known as "the bishop of the poor."

He died of natural causes on June 6, 1938, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on Jan. 29, 1995.

Thanks...

Thank you for your prayers and your e-mails of good thoughts for our daughter.  We had a long but wonderful day.  Christina gave birth to a baby boy, Markus Andrew, at 5:48 p.m., Thursday, 10-26-06.  He weighed 7 lbs. 14oz. and was 20" long.  Mother, Father, and son are doing well and many smiles and tears were shed for this beautiful gift from God.  This is our 8th grandchild and we feel truly blessed.  We now have six grandsons and 2 granddaughters.  We have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving with our granddaughter, Tess born August 31 and now Markus.

Michael P. Regan's Field Agent Report:

COVERAGE THROUGH THE AGES

Have you ever wondered at what age it’s appropriate to purchase solid financial protection? Life insurance fits a variety of needs and it’s never too early to secure coverage but can unexpectedly be too late.

THE EARLY YEARS

Knights of Columbus insurance policies may be purchased for young children (grandchildren), with coverage lasting through their college years and beyond. Keep in mind insuring your children early helps ensure coverage later on. As they get older, you can teach your teens to build in life insurance coverage as part of a budget, starting

them on a lifelong practice of understanding the need for protection. Children (grandchildren) are eligible for KofC insurance through their father’s membership up to the age of 18. Neglecting to get a plan started for them before they turn age 18, will cost your children the opportunity to participate in the awesome KofC insurance programs in the future.

YOUNG ADULTS

While college students or recent graduates may be more concerned with paying back student loans and landing that first job, life insurance is still a great idea. While in college and in the years immediately following, many young people accumulate more debt than they realize in the form of student loans, credit card bills and car loans. If something happens to them, the obligations for these bills will fall on the parents, if they have co-signed for the loans. Another advantage to buying life insurance in college is that it will be much more affordable when purchased at a younger age and the ability to qualify is much easier.

CAREER AND FAMILY

If you are single with no dependents, remember you do not have to die to benefit from life insurance. For instance, permanent plans of insurance accumulate cash value that can be used to systematically accumulate money for retirement or other important needs.

Of course, if you are married or have a family, life insurance is an excellent risk-management tool. You’ll have peace of mind knowing that your loved one’s financial needs will be covered regardless if something happens to you or not.

RETIREMENT

Life insurance can still be useful in retirement-even necessary. It can enhance your pension, protect your retirement income, replace your social security check and can provide a means to help support your spouse when you are no longer here to do so. Life insurance is a valuable, versatile product that can assist you in all phases of life.
